Static stretch is where a person would hold a muscle at their end of range and stay still with no movement hence the term static!
Normally the stretch would be held anywhere from 10 secs to 1 min. Short held in warm ups and longer at end of sessions. This type of stretch is the only type that will fully release tension from your muscles. Dynamic and active stretch will not as there’s too much surrounding contraction. So we in short must finish each session with a good top to toe static stretch. In fitness we see many fads and new ways but after 3 decades of studying dancers I still firmly believe this type of stretch is crucial to have a healthy dancers body!!
